- W2016259669 abstract "The toxicity of 5-hydroxytryptoline (5-HTLN), a cyclic analog of 5-hydroxytryptamine, was studied in male Sprague-Dawley rats receiving daily ip injections of saline for 7 days or of 100 mg/kg of 5-HTLN for 1, 7, or 10 days prior to sacrifice. At this dose, 5-HTLN produced marked nephrotoxicity, with serum elevations of BUN, creatinine, and inorganic phosphate in some animals. Histological examination of the kidneys revealed a pattern of acute tubular degeneration and necrosis and glomerular membrane damage, along with evidence of tubular regeneration in some animals. There was also mild hepatocellular degeneration in some animals, without consistent elevations in related serum enzymes. No abnormalities were found in other organ tissues, including brain, adrenals, pancreas, heart, lung, and gastrointestinal tract. Terminal hematological data were normal." @default.
