- W2016301221 abstract "Abstract A NUMBER of investigators have studied the effects of dubbing on the subsequent performance of laying hens. Cole and Hutt (1954) reviewed previous studies on the subject and concluded that there appeared to be evidence in favor of dubbing layers. However, most of the studies involved relatively small numbers of birds and the data were highly variable, making an accurate appraisal difficult. Cole and Hutt (1954) undertook an experiment involving over 5,000 White Leghorn pullets, approximately half of which had been dubbed at 8 weeks of age. The dubbed birds laid an average of three eggs more than the controls, but this difference was not statistically significant. The investigators felt, however, that there were reasons to believe that the increase in production was due in part to the dubbing. During cold weather the dubbed birds did relatively better, whereas during the summer the controls did relatively better. Davis and Hutto …" @default.
