One kind of petit λ, called prehead, contains a certain set of processed minor proteins, sediments at 135 S and is able to accept DNA for packaging. Its possible precursor, the “unprocessed” petit λ contains unprocessed minor components and a core protein, and sediments at 160 S. Other kinds of petit λ particles containing none or only part of the minor proteins fall into two distinct sedimentation classes (again 135 and 160 S). Protein composition, function of the minor proteins and sedimentation behaviour are correlated. Partial sequences of events that occur in situ on the particles can be deduced." @default.
