- W2016358464 abstract "The frequency of evaluations and raises in the labor market and the repayment structure of loans have many common elements. It is argued that frequent payments provide additional information to workers and lenders. These agents are willing to pay for the information. That rather obvious point yields a number of implications about the structure of labor and financial markets. It suggests, for example, that workers with firm-specific human capital are less likely to be evaluated, that senior workers should be evaluated less frequently than junior ones, and that students should take most of thier qualifying exams early in their careers. It also implies that evaluation should be more common in firms where the probability of failure and turnover rates are high and in activities where performance is highly correlated over time. The theory provides an explanation for the virtual universality of installment loans on real estate coupled with the widespread existence of zero-coupon securities, which are almost never used in real estate financing." @default.
