- W2016360590 abstract "The systematic use of superovulation and embryo transfer in dairy cattle breeding in the multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) schemes is reviewed. The general characteristics of these schemes are outlined to illustrate some of the theoretical assumptions made. This is followed by a description of some of the embryo technological results of the various MOET schemes initiated in practice one decade ago. Through this, some of the many factors which are likely to interfere with the successful implementation of MOET theory are revealed. These factors include superovulation of the donor animal, selection and use of the recipient, problems during embryo transfer, events during pregnancy and, finally, characteristics of the calves born. The step from theory to practice of the MOET scheme is discussed and evaluated. The main conclusion is that the MOET schemes have clearly demonstrated that the basic assumptions can be fulfilled. However, some of the expectations have not yet been achieved. Explanations for this and suggestions for the future direction of MOET schemes in dairy cattle are discussed." @default.
