- W2016370432 abstract "Abstract The Yadong-Golmud geoscience transect, which was compiled between 1987 and 1989, crosses the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Along the transect we have recognised five suture zones and six tectono-stratigraphic terranes. The average crustal thickness of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is 70–80 km. Subsequent to terrane accretion and final subduction of oceanic crust, the lithosphere of the region was subjected to four major tectonic events: thrust faulting and movement along shallow-dipping detachments; folding; strike-slip faulting; and isostatic rebound. Uplift of the Plateau was caused primarily by north-south compression and isostatic compensation of the crust and upper mantle. Thermal activity in the mantle is probably not as important as that in the crust." @default.
