- W2016513825 abstract "In the Soldiers Cap Group of the central eastern part of the Early to Middle Proterozoic Mount Isa Inlier, tracing of mesoscopic structures has led to the recognition of an early NW-closing fold nappe with an E-W trending, coaxially shortened frontal zone (D1), folded around a N-S trending, upright syncline (D2). An andalusite-sillimanite prograde metamorphic event, indicating a paleo-geothermal gradient of approximately 50°C/km, occurred during early-D2 times. The coexistence of such moderately high paleo-geothermal gradients and crustal thickening is common in the Early to Middle Proterozoic mobile belts of northern Australia. Crust-mantle delamination has been suggested by Etheridge et al. (1987) to explain this coexistence. Here, the thermal implications of this model, and the additional thermal effects of waning crustal extension, magmatic events and of the radioactive selfheating of the thickened crust, are qualitatively discussed." @default.
