Electron spectra are assumed to be of the power-exponential type, j ~ Ev exp (−EE0), with v in the range 0 to 2 and E0 between 5 and 200 keV. In contrast to assumptions made in earlier work, it is found that as the spectrum softens the bremsstrahlung-induced fraction of the total riometer absorption increases, even though the fraction of the electron's energy that goes into bremsstrahlung decreases. The formulation is used to compute the 30 MHz absorption expected based on electron spectra measured in several events and the comparison with measured absorption results is discussed." @default.
