- W2016597966 abstract "This study aims to investigate the variation of malondialdehyde (MDA) in smokers and to determine the correlation between this parameter with smoking status parameters (number of cigarettes smoked per day and consumption duration). This study was conducted on 138 non smokers and 162 smokers aged respectively 35.55 ± 16.03 and 38.47 ± 21.91 years. For the determination of MDA, we used the thiobarbituric acid method. We found significant increase in MDA (8.22 ± 2.52 vs 6.60 ± 3.77; P < 10 −4 ) in smokers compared to non smokers before and after adjustment. After adjustment for potentials confounder factors such as lipid profile, BMI, age and gender, we noted a significant association between smoking status and higher levels of MDA levels. In smokers, we found a positive significant correlation between MDA and number of cigarette smoked per day ( r = 0.535; P < 10 −4 ). MDA levels were significantly higher in subjects smoking more than 40 cigarettes per day compared to those smoking less than 20 cigarettes per day. Moreover, we found that smoking multiplies by 2.8 the risk of an increase in MDA. In addition, among smokers, we found that the risk of an increase in MDA increases with the number of cigarettes smoked per day and with consumption duration. The evaluation of oxidative stress in smokers may then be regarded as a key element to integrate into the clinical and laboratory followed smokers for better prevention of cardiovascular disease. Notre objectif est d’étudier les effets du tabagisme sur la concentration du malondialdéhyde (MDA) et les variations de la concentration du MDA en fonction du statut tabagique. Notre population est formée de 162 fumeurs âgés en moyenne de 35,55 ± 16,03 et de 138 non-fumeurs âgés en moyenne de 38,47 ± 21,91 ans. Pour le dosage du MDA, nous avons utilisé la méthode de l’acide thiobarbiturique. Nous avons noté une augmentation significative de la concentration du MDA chez les fumeurs par rapport aux non-fumeurs avant et après ajustement aux potentiels facteurs confondants. Chez les fumeurs, une corrélation positive entre les concentrations moyennes du MDA et le nombre de cigarettes fumées et avec l’ancienneté de l’exposition a été notée. La concentration du MDA est significativement plus élevée chez les sujets fumant plus de 40 cigarettes par jour par rapport à ceux fumant moins de 20 cigarettes par jour. Nous avons également constaté que le tabac multiplie par 2,8 le risque d’avoir une augmentation du MDA. De plus, chez les fumeurs, nous avons remarqué que le risque d’une augmentation du MDA s’accroît avec le nombre de cigarettes fumées par jour et avec l’ancienneté de l’exposition. L’évaluation du stress oxydant chez les fumeurs peut alors être considérée comme un élément primordial à intégrer dans le suivi clinicobiologique chez les fumeurs pour une meilleure prévention des maladies cardiovasculaires." @default.
