- W2016650762 abstract "Photoelectrons ejected from ns subshells of closed-shell atoms by unpolarised radiation are polarised as a result of the spin-orbit interaction. This usually small effect is dramatically enhanced near the 'Cooper minimum' of the ns cross section. The authors present theoretical values of the spin polarisation of photoelectrons from outer ns subshells of the rare-gas atoms Xe, Kr and Ar, obtained in the relativistic random-phase approximation. It is shown that a degree of polarisation ranging up to 53% is possible for unpolarised radiation incident on Xe atom near the 5s cross section minimum. Furthermore, it is found that for linearly polarised radiation, up to 99% polarisation can be achieved while for circularly polarised radiation, photoelectrons with up to 70% polarisation can be produced." @default.
