- W2016978093 abstract "A modern CNC machine must have a very high static stiffness, simple mode shapes and high eigen frequencies. Its behaviour must be as reliable and linear as possible. The fulfilment of these requirements usually eliminates stress concentrations, relative motions between bolted parts … and hereby energy dissipation. A high damping is generally a desirable characteristic of machine elements and structures. The purpose of this paper is to show that the conventional means (active and passive, static and dynamic) aimed at increasing damping, cannot achieve their goals without questioning the above mentioned qualities of the machines themselves. Finally, the paper will show the essential specifications of a usefull system for increasing the energy dissipation of machine-tool structures." @default.
