- W2016998775 abstract "In carbonate ecosystems, the abundance and diversity of organisms trigger the type and amount of sediment produced and influence the shape of sedimentary bodies, topography of the sea bottom, and sea-level accommodation (Masse and Montaggioni, 2001; Kiessling et al., 2003; Philip, 2003). Spatial distribution of organisms involved in the carbonate factory and the rearrangement of biotas with changing oceanographic conditions can dramatically modify the local rates, grain size, and mineralogy of the production. Carbonate producers, along with bioeroding and durophagous organisms, are the most significant guilds that imprint sedimentary systems and the preservation potential of recognizable organic remains. Thus they contribute to several kinds of ecologic, taphonomic, and sedimentologic biases in the fossil record. All guilds may be structured into complex sets of communities that are spatially and ecologically organized, and linking the evolution of fossil ecosystems with the evolution of carbonate sedimentary systems must be …" @default.
