The total amount adsorbed was related to the size of the molecule while, with respect to the glucans, strength of adsorption was related to the proportion of (1 → 3)-like linkages in the molecule. It is suggested that ability to produce a glucan capsule containing a high proportion of α(1 → 3)-like linkages is one factor in determining whether or not an organism can adhere to the smooth tooth surface." @default.
