- W2017049998 abstract "Cloud-point techniques have been used to establish θ-conditions for polytetrahydrofuran in five mixtures of chlorobenzene and n-octane. The relation [η] = KθM0.50 was verified in each case and d in 〈r2〉0/dT derived from the values of Kθ. Light scattering measurements on one fraction in these media confirmed that the second virial coefficient was zero in each case, but high apparent molecular weights were manifested on account of the considerable preferential adsorption of chlorobenzene. The unperturbed radius of gyration increased with temperature, in conflict with the decrease found viscometrically and predicted theoretically. This effect appears to substantiate the recent proposition of Yamakawa that coil sizes measured by light scattering are likely to be considerably in error when excessive preferential adsorption prevails. @default.
