- W2017078302 abstract "In this experiment, the domain structure formed after a repeated phase transition showed regularity and a tendency to improve in periodicity when the phase transition rate was lower than some critical value. If the phase transition rate was higher than the critical one, the domain structure showed nearly the same pattern after every temperature cycle through a phase transition region, but the periodicity was deteriorated and showed no sign of improvement with time. The existence of the critical value of the phase transition rate was explained in terms of the nucleation process during the phase transition. The critical value of the cooling rate which met the demand of the uniformity and simultaneity of the nucleation within the crystal was found to depend on the thickness of the sample, on the thermal conductivity and on the temperature range in which the nuclei are formed. The nucleation temperature range was calculated to be about 20 mK for TGS single crystal." @default.
