- W2017147550 abstract "Collective magnetism of itinerant valence electrons in thin films is investigated within the framework of the strongly correlated Hubbard model. A standard moment method (SDA) that has recently been generalized for systems with reduced translational symmetry is used for a self-consistent calculation of the temperature-dependent magnetizations of layers parallel to the film surfaces. Results are presented for bcc films with (110) surface consisting of d = 1 up to d = 20 layers. The surface-layer magnetization ms is found to be lower than the mean film magnetization m. ms and m slowly converge for thickness d→∞. We discuss the magnetization curves mi(T) and the thickness-dependent Curie temperature TC(d). The Curie temperature of the d = 3 layer film is found to be already quite close to the bulk value." @default.
