- W2017149232 abstract "Methods are described for the quantitative determinations of cytochrome c concentrations in normal and mutant strains of yeast, and for measuring the chromatographic and electrophoretic mobilities of different iso-cytochromes c. Fifteen mutants of yeast, which had various degrees of cytochrome cy deficiencies, were due to mutations at six unlinked loci (cy1… cy6). Normal yeast contained mainly iso-1-cytochrome c and small amounts (approximately 5%) of iso-2-cytochrome c. cy1 mutants contained only iso-2-cytochrome c at concentrations roughly equal to that found in the normal strain. Mutants at the other loci (cy2… cy6) contained reduced amounts of both iso-cytochromes c, in approximately the same proportion as was found in the normal strain. It is suggested that: cy1 is the structural gene for iso-1-cytochrome c; cy2 and cy3 are in some way directly concerned with cytochrome c synthesis; and cy4cy5, and cy6 are causing cytochrome c deficiencies by some secondary means. Cytochrome a was not present in mutants of yeast which were extremely low in cytochrome c." @default.
