K. ; Mitra, Banashree ; Durgaprasad, N. ; Biswas, S. ; Vahia, M. N. ; Yadav, J. S. ; Dutta, A. ; Goswami, J. N. Abstract Ionization states of individual N, O, and Ne ions in low-energy (10-30 MeV/n) anomalous cosmic rays (ACR) were detected in the Anuradha experiment performed on the Space Shuttle Spacelab-3 mission during April-May 1985. The instrumentation made it possible to obtain accurate information about the arrival locations and directions of individual ACr ions and thus the threshold rigidity needed by each of these ions to reach the point of their detection in the Spacelab-3 orbit. The upper limit on the ionization states was then deduced. The results clearly establish the singly ionized nature of the ACR particles and support the model which suggests that local interstellar neutrals are the source of this component.
