- W2017190983 abstract "The adsorption of anionic polyelectrolytes at the water—TiO2 interface in the presence of divalent cations has been studied using ESR and classical colloid chemistry characterizations. ESR measurements allowed us to identify the interactions between Mn2+, the surface of TiO2 and the binding sites of the polymers. Mn2+ has been found to be adsorbed at the TiO2 interface without loss of coordinated water, and to specifically interact with the ionic groups of the polyelectrolytes. Phase-separation of the polyelectrolytes was observed over a critical Mn2+/ionic groups molar ratio range. The adsorption of polyelectrolytes increased the stability of TiO2 dispersions. The addition of Mn2+ to the stabilized slurry caused an increase in the adsorption of the polyelectrolyte, and eventually the coagulation of the system. A charge mechanism for the stabilization of TiO2 dispersion in the presence of polyelectrolytes and metal ions is proposed." @default.
