- W2017209314 abstract "Abstract 1. 1. Hemolymph chemistry of two species of orb weaving spiders was studied and compared with hemolymph chemistry of other arthropods. 2. 2. Total osmotic pressure was 536 mOsm/l in Araneus gemma and 508 in Argiope trifasciata . 3. 3. Na and Cl concentrations made up about 50% of the hemolymph osmolytes. 4. 4. Totals of K, Ca, and Mg were 43 mg/l for A. gemma and 29 for A. trifasciata or 8% and 6% of the total osmolytes, respectively. 5. 5. Organic constituents, primarily amino acids, made up a sizable portion of the hemolymph osmolytes. 6. 6. Proteins, carbohydrates, total lipids and free fatty acids were at comparable levels to those reported for many insects. 7. 7. The placement of spiders among the “lower” arthropods is discussed." @default.
