- W2017218982 abstract "In the enthalpies of crystallization of the KCl-NaCl system a maximum was observed at 91 mole% NaCl by differential thermal analysis. At about the same composition there is also a rapid all in the solidus curve, which points to a minimum in the free energy curve. The enthalpies of crystallization have also been calculated from the published enthalpies of mixing in the liquid and solid phases and from the approximated enthalpies of crystallization for pure components at the appropriate melting points of the solutions. The agreement is satisfying except at 60–95 mole% NaCl. The difference is greatest at 75–91 mole% NaCl. Possible explanations of the observations are discussed. The mechanism proposed is a strong, reversible relaxation of the expanded lattice which may take place at high temperatures as a consequence of the cooperation of K+ ions in the NaCl matrix." @default.
