- W2017231870 abstract "To compare two dimensional (2D) sonohysterography (SHG) and three dimensional (3D) transvaginal sonography (TVS) of the coronal plane of the uterus in assessment of cavity lesions and anomalies in infertile patients prior to assisted reproductive techniques (ART). Two hundred infertile patients selected for assisted reproductive techniques and suspected to have uterine cavity lesions or anomalies based on hysterosalpingography (HSG) or 2D TVS, were subjected to 3D TVS and 2D saline SHG by two different operators and results of each test were blinded. All patients were subjected to hysteroscopy/laparoscopy as a gold standard for the final diagnosis. Out of the 200 patients enrolled in the study, hysteroscopy/laparoscopy revealed uterine cavity congenital anomalies in 121 (66%). They were classified into three groups: Group I (n = 21): uterine cavity Mullerian anomalies, Group II (63): submucous myomas, Group III (n = 26): polyps and Group IV (n = 11): intrauterine adhesions. 2D TVS alone had lower accuracy (80.49) than either 3D TVS (94.87) or 2D SHG (98.1). 3D TVS assessment of the coronal plane was as accurate as 2D SHG in uterine Mullerian anomalies. submucous myomas and polyps. However, 2D SHG had higher accuracy than 3D TVS in diagnosis of cases with intrauterine adhesions. 3D TVS assessment of the coronal plane of the uterus is a satisfactory test for confirmation of the presence of uterine cavity congenital anomalies and submucous myomas and polyps. It is recommended as a screening test for all patients enrolled for ART and in selecting cases for hysteroscopy and possible surgical intervention. In cases with suspected intrauterine adhesions, saline SHG is recommended as a screening test before more invasive procedures." @default.
