- W2017291785 abstract "Abstract The chemosterilant, metepa, was used to induce sterility in adult moths of Hapalia machaeralis by administering through adult diet. Doses of 0.3, 0.6, 1.2 and 2.5% water solution of metepa were mixed with 10% honey solution for feeding the moths. Longevity of treated males and females was not affected when treated with 0.3% and 0.6% though higher concentrations (1.2% and 2.5%) produced toxic effects. Fecundity and fertility were markedly reduced when normal females mated with treated males or treated females mated with normal males at 0.6% metepa treatment as indicated from the number of eggs laid and also from the spermatophores present in the females. Competitiveness in mating of both males and females treated with 0.6% metepa was in no way affected, but the higher doses (1.2% and 2.5%) were found toxic to moths. @default.
