Histochemical techniques for the demonstration of glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), cholinesterases (ChEase) and phosphorylase were performed in the pharyngeal retractor muscle of the snail (Cryptomphallus) and in the muscles of the cockroach leg (Blaptica). 2. In the smooth muscle of snail the presence of the four reactions in the sarcolemma and sarcoplasm stands out. 3. In the striated muscle of the cockroach leg a positive reaction for dehydrogenases and cholinesterases is obtained in the sarcolemma and sarcoplasm. 4. The meaning of these results in relation to neuromuscular transmission and findings of electron microscopy is discussed." @default.
