- W2017331480 abstract "The EEG effects of controlled hyperventilation, of hypoxia and of their sequential combination have been studied in 87 healthy adult subjects. By using the appearance of frontal delta rhythm as the end-point it was possible to compare the relative effectiveness of these procedures at various ages. Only the combined technique proved to be consistently reliable but all showed a decrease in effectiveness with advancing age. As a result of continuously measuring the changes in oxygen saturation and end-tidal CO2 concentration during these manoeuvres, it has proved possible to estimate a quantitative threshold for a healthy adult population which will serve as a standard for comparison in subsequent studies in pathological states. A number of the factors thought to influence the threshold of appearance of frontal delta rhythm are discussed. Les effets EEG de l'hyperventilation contrôlée, de l'hypoxie et de la combinaison consécutive de ces deux techniques ont été étudiés chez 87 sujets adultes sains. En utilisant l'apparition du rythme delta frontal comme point terminal, il a été possible de comparer l'efficacité relative de ces procédés à des âges différents. Seule la technique combinée s'est révélée uniformément efficace, mais toutes se sont révélées moins efficaces chez les sujets plus âgés. La mesure ininterrompue des modifications de la saturation du sang par l'oxygène et la concentration en CO2 de l'air courant terminal pendant ces essais nous a permis de calculer un seuil quantitatif pour une population adulte saine, qui servira de moyen de comparaison dans des études ultérieures d'états pathologiques.
