- W2017346322 abstract "The relationship of brain mitochondrial protein synthesis to nerve ending protien synthesis was investigated by isolating both fractions simultaneously from young rats and comparing the incorporation of [14C]leucine under identical incubation conditions. Both fractions had similar requirements for sodium and potassium activation with concentrations of100mMand10mMrespectively producing maximum levels of incorporation. Calcium, magnesium, insulin, and EDTA inhibited both systems in a parallel fashion. Chloramphenicol had almost no effect on either fraction. Cycloheximide depressed protein synthesis to approximately 25% of control values at concentrations of 10 μg/ml. The data suggest that the mechanism of protein synthesis in nerve endings and brain mitochondria is similar if not identical, and that this mechanism is sensitive to cycloheximide and resistant to chloramphenicol." @default.
