- W2017498359 abstract "In copolymers of methyl methacrylate with 5–20% of methacrylic acid, the hydrogen bond network represents an equilibrium between two types of crosslinks: carboxylic dimers, and complexes between carboxylic and ester groups. Owing to the high concentration of the ester groups, at high temperatures this equilibrium is shifted almost completely towards the COOH…O≙COCH3 complexes. In these complexes, the temperature dependence of the frequency and intensity of the OH absorption band is determined by changes in the length and strength of the H…O bond, as a consequence of thermal expansion of the copolymer. The formation of the hydrogen bond between the carboxyl and ester groups is accompanied by a conformational change of the latter, from the cis- to the trans-form, and change of its orientation with respect to the main chain. It has been noted that the conformation of the ester group is similarly affected by chemicals crosslinks in polydimethacrylates." @default.
