This study deals with the investigation, by means of metal-film-metal structures, of the electrical conduction in thin anodic films on titanium as well as at the interfaces. Investigation of the current-voltage characteristics of Ti-oxide-Au and Ti-oxide-Al structures reveals the role played by temperature and shows that, at the lowest values of applied voltage, the characteristics are ohmic. A further increase in applied voltage leads to a quadratic current dependence on voltage which can be interpreted in terms of a space-charge-limited current. At the highest applied voltages the observed characteristics are symmetrical and independent of the polarity. Our conclusion is that the Poole-Frenckel emission mechanism is responsible for high field d.c. conduction. The temperature dependence of the characteristics confirms this bulk mechanism for conduction in the film. A transition to an electrode-limited process (Schottky emission) is observed at a temperature of about 400 K when the gold counterelectrode is negatively biased." @default.
