They play a significant role in promoting allergic inflammation through the release of proinflammatory mediators including histamine, leukoterineC4, IL-4 and IL-13. Basophils are the least numerous of the circulating leukocytes, representing less than 1% of the typical blood differential count. Basophils are modestly increased in the peripheral blood of allergic patients, whereas their numbers are substantially increased in target organ tissues during natural allergen exposure and following experimental provocation of the skin, nose, and lung biopsies during late-phase responses. Les basophiles (ainsi que les éosinophiles et les mastocytes) sont des cellules effectrices importantes dans les maladies allergiques chez l’homme. Elles jouent un rôle pivot dans l’inflammation allergique en libérant de nombreux médiateurs pro-inflammatoires comme l’histamine, le leucotriène C4, l’IL4 et l’IL13. Les basophiles sont les leucocytes les moins nombreux du sang périphérique ; ils représentent moins de 1 % des cellules dans une formule blanche normale.
