- W2018282017 abstract "In recent years, the significance of the physical training to the people with congenital disturbance is under discussion in the field of sports medicine. Therefore, the effective method to improve the physical activity is desired for training coaches and teachers. PURPOSE: To analyze the effects of physical training on standing long jump among the people with autism and the down syndrome. METHODS: Fifteen autism persons (autism group; age; 23 ± 13 yr) and 8 down syndrome persons (down group; age; 20 ± 8 yr) were participate in this study. Subjects were instructed the motion of upper limb during standing long jump for 3 months (1 hour per day/ twice a week). Two styled standing long jumps (fixed both arms and free styled jump) were carried out before and after training to evaluate the physical training. The distance of jump was measured and the 2-D motion by video camera was analyzed. RESULTS: The values of the length of standing long jump were not significantly different between autism and down groups before training. After training, the distances in autism group (fixed arm145%, free style 158%) and down group (fixed arm 106%, free style130%) were significantly increased (p <0.05). The swing pattern of the arm was different between the two groups before training. After training, the range of motion of the shoulder joint was improved in both groups (p <0.05), particularly in autism. CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested the motion of the arms is very important for the standing long jump among the people with autism and down syndrome and can be improved by physical training." @default.
