- W2018339105 abstract "Summary Milk from inflamed quarters required a smaller amount of urokinase to activate the fibrinolytic and caseolytic systems than milk from control quarters of the same cows. Plasmin activity in milk showed good correlation with the level of plasmin activator and with the inflammatory markers SCC, antitrypsin and NAGase. Proteolytic activity in mastitic milk can be easily visualized by allowing the milk samples to diffuse into milk‐agar layers and fibrin‐plasminogen agar layers in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate. Growth of Streptococcus agalactiae in milk lactoserum prepared from mastitic milk was enhanced, indicating that inflammation with plasmin activation was associated with a supply of growth‐limiting nutrients for bacteria. @default.
