- W2018351641 abstract "Abstract Different methods of mixing or milling elemental powders of nickel and titanium, followed by hot or cold consolidation and subsequent sintering, are examined in an attempt to obtain a strong and tough intermetallic. High temperature sintering of very inhomogeneous material leads to the melting of compositions of low melting point and a porous material results. Reduction of the scale of chemical inhomogeneity by milling the powders allows easy solid state homogenization such that melting can easily be avoided. At the same time the extent of solid state voidage produced by the differences in diffusivity of the two elements can be controlled and reduced to negligible values. A proper selection of initial milling, compaction and sintering makes it possible to obtain a good quality intermetallic." @default.
