- W2018354096 abstract "Scale transformations of the $mathrm{SU}(2)ifmmodetimeselsetexttimesfi{}mathrm{SU}(2)$ linear $ensuremath{sigma}$ model are studied in order to relate the mechanisms which break chiral symmetry and scale invariance. It is shown that the new improved stress-energy tensor is finite in this model if it is finite in the symmetric theory. Formal trace identities for one-particle irreducible matrix elements of the trace of the new improved tensor are derived and verified in second-order perturbation theory, which implies that the pion and $ensuremath{sigma}$ have canonical dimension to this order. The trace identities are shown to be anomalous in the limit in which the renormalized chiral-symmetric mass tends to zero, which implies that there must be a background contribution to matrix elements of the trace. A numerical estimate, not based entirely on perturbation theory, suggests that this background is fairly large, so that the $ensuremath{sigma}$ meson does not appear to dominate matrix elements of the trace of the stress-energy tensor." @default.
