- W2018381539 abstract "Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) brushes were grafted to the initiator-modified attapulgite nanorods via the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA). Their brush lengths were designed by controlling the polymerizing time. Three attapulgite/polylactide nanocomposites (B-ATP/PLA, ATP–PMMA1/PLA, and ATP–PMMA2/PLA) were prepared with the bare attapulgite nanorods (B-ATP) and the PMMA grafted attapulgite nanorods (ATP–PMMA1 and ATP–PMMA2) as the nanofillers by the melt compounding technique, respectively. Their tensile tests indicated that the surface grafting of the PMMA brushes could improve the dispersibility of the attapulgite nanorods (ATP) in the polylactide (PLA) matrix. So enhanced tensile strength was achieved, especially for the ATP–PMMA2 nanorods with longer PMMA brushes." @default.
