- W2018477925 abstract "The surface elasticity and viscosity of mixed nonideal monolayers in both slow and rapid compression/dilation are predicted in terms of the parameters characterizing the surfactants in the monolayer. The interaction model used in Part II in conjunction with the equation of state of the monolayer predicts a large influence of the type of interactions that can be deduced from equilibrium surface tension measurements. In the high surface pressure region, this influence is not due to a direct contribution of the interaction energy terms, but rather to the higher degree of saturation that the interacting monolayers can reach at a given surface pressure. Numerical examples derived for equimolecular sodium laurate-lauric acid monolayers show that the solvent-surfactant repulsion and the mutual attraction between the surfactants can increase the surface elasticity by an order of magnitude. Even greater is the effect of these interactions on surface viscosity resulting from diffusional interchange of the more readily soluble surfactant. This relaxation mechanism, although relatively weak, still accounts for surface viscosity values of up to 0.5 surface poise under given conditions." @default.
