- W2018502143 abstract "Abstract We studied the mechanism of the stimulatory effect of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on heme synthesis in dissociated-reaggregated yolk sac cells from quail embryos. An increase in heme synthesis was observed when cells were exposed to DMSO for more than 12 h. Twenty-four hours of exposure to DMSO evoked a maximum stimulation of heme synthesis. An increase in the content of hemoglobin (Hb) and DNA was observed in DMSO-treated expiants, suggesting that there was a genuine increase in Hb synthesis. The degree of increase in Hb content was larger than the increase in DNA content. There was no change in content of Hb in each erythroblast as a result of treatment with DMSO or in the cellular permeability for 59Fe. These data seem to suggest that DMSO is an effective stimulus of heme synthesis in the early period of erythroid cell differentiation." @default.
