- W2018587434 abstract "In an attempt to account for the anomalous distortion of the water molecule, a four-dimensional vibration-rotation Hamiltonian is constructed with the help of Radau's coordinates. In this Hamiltonian, the bending ν2 mode and the three degrees of freedom corresponding to the overall rotation of the molecule are treated simultaneously. Phenomenological distortion terms are added and nondiagonal matrix elements between different vibrational levels are taken into account. This Hamiltonian is used to carry out two analyses of the rotational levels of the water molecule. Rotational levels belonging to the ground vibrational state are fitted up to J = 20 with a standard deviation of 5.8 using 39 parameters. Rotational levels belonging to the first excited ν2 = 1 vibrational state are fitted up to J = 13 with a standard deviation of 3.5 using 31 parameters. The model developed seems to have good predictive capabilities and to account satisfactorily for the internal dynamics of the water molecule." @default.
