- W2019011255 abstract "Abstract Non-faradaic electrochemical behavior of a monolayer-protected metal cluster (MPC) was examined at an electrified interface to see whether it is possible to give a dynamic motion to its surface-protecting layer or to its metallic core by potential control. The surface of a Au nanoparticle of a diameter of 6 nm was modified with a mixed monolayer of dodecanethiol and 4-pyridyl terminated alkanethiol derivative to synthesize a MPC (Py-MPC). To the film of Py-MPC spread at a gas|aqueous solution interface, a Au(1 1 1) electrode was horizontally touched. The results of d.c. and a.c. voltammetric and electroreflectance spectroscopic measurements were used to describe the behavior of the Py-MPC. It was found that the movement of at least terminal 4-pyridyl groups in contact with the Au(1 1 1) electrode surface can be controlled by the potential." @default.
