- W2019281666 abstract "Individuals with a history of panic attacks are more likely to report the experience of a panic attack when infused with sodium lactate than are individuals without such a history. This correlational fact has led to the hypothesis that lactate is a specific probe which leads to the chemical induction of panic attacks in lactate-sensitive people. Pertinent data from studies of lactate infusions were analyzed from a hyperventilation point of view. The conclusions reached supported the thesis that: (a) sodium lactate is not a specific probe in the biochemical induction of panic attacks, (b) sensitivity to lactate is a consequence of the experience of panic attacks, not the cause of panic attacks, and (c) the effects of lactate infusions can be explained parsimoniously by the hyperventilation theory of panic disorder and agoraphobia proposed by Ley." @default.
