- W2019316811 abstract "When a vacuum flasher is adopted in the heat cycle of a geothermal power plant of the so-called steam-water mixture type, the thermal efficiency of power generation will be increased to a great extent, but the power generating cost will not be decreased appreciably, unless the direct transportation of steam-water mixtures from the wells to the plant site is successfully realized. Therefore an experiment was carried out at No. 5 well in the Otake geothermal field in November 1964, in which the feasibility of pipeline transportation of the steam-water mixtures was examined. The experimental loop which consisted of horizontal, inclined and bend sections had the total length of about 70 meters with an inside diameter of 201.3 millimeters. The loop was also designed to change the direction of flow by opening or closing valves. The pressure loss measured in the horizontal section appropriately agreed with that predicted by the Lockhart-Martinelli method; but the pressure loss in the inclined section was rather greater than the predicted value. Neither water hammering nor vibration of the pipeline was observed during the steady flow tests. The next experiment which will involve research into the flow phenomena of steam-water mixtures in the transient state is scheduled for this autumn by the authors." @default.
