An approach is given here for analyzing electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) data in order to measure the amount of interdiffusion and to predict how interdiffusion can be reduced by changing the coating chemistry. The approach makes use of “zero flux planes” and “composition vectors”. It is shown how to eliminate or reduce Kirkendall porosity in a systematic manner.
