Diese Arbeit wurde durch die Erfahrungen des Tenovus Krebs-Informations-Zentrums initiiert, einer Organisation, die Information und Unterstutzung fur Krebspatienten anbietet. Kopf- und Halskrebs scheint von betroffenen Familien besonders schwer und anstrengend erlebt zu werden. Deshalb hielten wir eine Literaturubersicht, die die derzeitige Wissenbasis widerspiegelt, fur notig. Risikofaktoren und aktuelle Behandlungsformen werden zusammengestellt und die Erfahrungen, die Patienten wahrend der diagnostischen, therapeutischen und rehabilitativen Phase machen, werden berucksichtigt. Die andauernde funktionale und psychosoziale Beeintrachtigung durch Kopfund Halskrebs ist offensichtlich und es werden Empfehlungen fur zukunftige Arbeiten gegeben, um Pflegeergebnisse zu verbessern. El cáncer de cabeza y cuello aparece como una causa importante de problemas y de estrés en las familias afectadas; sin embargo, una síntesis de la bibliografia para entender la base del conocimiento fue profundamente necesaria. Factores de riesgo y nuevos tratamientos son aqui resumidos, asi como la experiencia del paciente a través del diagnóstico, tratamiento y rehabilitación en cáncer de cabeza y cuello son también considerados. El impacto fisico y psicosocial del cáncer de cabeza y cuello es evidente, recomendaciones son hechas para un futuro trabajo que ayude a mejorar los cuidados a estos pacientes.
