- W2019502016 abstract "The structure of the flagellar apparatus of Katablepharis ovalis (from a freshwater impoundment in Colorado) and Katablepharis clone G-2 (from the Black Sea near Yalta in the Crimea) is described. The transition zone of the flagella has the two central microtubules ending at a transverse plate that is above the point of insertion of the flagellum into the cell. Beneath the transverse plate is an electron-dense rod of material. Just above the transverse plate in Katablepharis clone G-2, there is a spiral of electron-dense material just between the flagellar membrane and the outer set of nine doublet-microtubules. This spiral of electron-dense material was not seen in Katablepharis ovalis. The flagellar-root system of K. ovalis is composed of a striated root, a fibrous root and four types of microtubular roots. The flagellaroot system of Katablepharis clone G-2 is composed of a fibrous root and four types of microtubular roots. The flagellar-root system of Katablepharis is similar to that of cryptophytes and the green algae. The flagellar transition-zone is intermediate between the structure found in cryptophytes and that in prasinophytes, while the cell covering is similar to that occurring in the prasinophytes." @default.
