- W2019751331 abstract "We have read with great interest the article by Hallam et al. on an interferon-gamma (IFNγ)-related inflammatory reaction in the trisomy 16 (Ts16) mouse brain, which leads to caspase-1-mediated neuronal apoptosis ( Hallam et al., 2000 Hallam D.M. Capps N.L. Travelstead A.L. Brewer G.J. Maroun L.E. Evidence for an interferon-related inflammatory reaction in the trisomy 16 mouse brain leading to caspase-1-mediated neuronal apoptosis. J. Neuroimmunol. 2000; 110: 66-75 Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (25) Google Scholar ). Using whole-brain homogenates, the authors report increased levels of IFNγ and Fas receptor immunoreactivity and about altered itracellular calcium and pH homeostasis in Ts16 mouse neurons. From these data, it is concluded that an IFNγ-mediated, self-perpetuating, inflammatory reaction might be responsible for the loss of neuron viability in Down's syndrome (DS). We would like to strengthen the point that IFNγ is an important mediator in the development of neurodegeneration by demonstrating that IFNγ may exert its detrimental influence via several different modes of action (Fig. 1)." @default.
