- W2019762262 abstract "It is shown by model calculations that, besides streaking of RHEED reflections lying on Laue circles, finite lateral ordering or thermal diffuse scattering (TDS) of crystals with ideal flat surfaces can produce transmission (3D) like diffraction patterns. Relevant parameters are mean free path due to absorption and dynamical extinction as well as lateral ordering length or lateral phonon momentum transfer. Such transmission effects can also be generated by mosiac surfaces. This is confirmed by comparison of quasielastically measured spot profiles from NiO(001) with model calculations. The results are contrary to the general opinion where transmission features are ascribed to true transmission of three-dimensional surface asperities only. The significance of our interpretation for monitoring the layer growth in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) with RHEED is pointed out." @default.
