- W2019767589 abstract "Under the experimental conditions used (300/sup 0/C 8.5 mm Hg ethane, 15.5 mm Hg hydrogen) methane was formed at approx. 2.5 mm Hg/min on pure nickel, but the activity decreased to 0.05 mm Hg/min at 60Vertical Bar3< palladium and decreased further to 0.0006 mm Hg/min on pure palladium. New Auger electron spectroscopic data showed less surface enrichment in palladium than measured previously, so that some surface nickel remained, even at Vertical Bar3: 65Vertical Bar3< bulk palladium content. In terms of surface composition, the activity remained constant at the value for pure nickel up to 50Vertical Bar3< surface palladium and then decreased monotonically to the value for pure palladium with increasing surface palladium content. These results are consistent with a concept of active centers consisting of ensembles of six mixed surface atoms of which at least two must be adjacent nickel atoms." @default.
