- W2019879400 abstract "ALMOST ALL INFANTS with disseminated herpes simplex virus infections or H S V encephali t is are younger t han 4 weeks at the onset of symptoms. Al though the pathogenesis of neonata l HSV infect ions is not well understood, age per se appears to be an impor tan t risk factor in the development of disease. Evidence for this risk includes an age-related resistance to H SV infections in an imal models 1.2 and the clinical observation tha t infants older t han 4 weeks seldom develop disseminated H S V infections despite frequent exposure to persons with herpes labialis. I f age per se is an impor tan t factor in controll ing the severity of HSV infections, then exposures to persons with active HSV infeetions other than the mother may resul t in serious infections. Babyto-baby transmission of H S V is a l ready known t o r e s u l t in serious secondary infections. 34 This report documents the t ransmission of H S V f rom a fa ther to his infant son, resulting in disseminated H S V infection." @default.
