Sachant l’importance du respect du volume courant durant une évacuation aérienne, le clinicien urgentiste impliqué doit connaître les contraintes pratiques d’usage de son propre respirateur. We study the performance of a respirator employing a turbine delivery system: LTV-1000™. We measured ventilator's ability to deliver a set tidal volume (Vt set) in the face of changing cabin altitude and normal lung model. The study was made in the French physiological laboratory of aviation and space medicine of the Air Force. We used a decompression chamber to mimic the hypobaric environment at a range of simulates cabin altitudes of 1500, 2500 and 3000 m (4000, 6666, 8000 feet). Ventilator was tested against model simulating a normal lung. Several Vt were set: 700, 400 mL. The LTV-1000 showed an increase in volume delivered for a normal lung model, with increasing altitude. The variation between Vt set and volume delivered was of more than 10% at 2500 m. As far as Vt is a critical point concerning aero-evacuations, clinician involved must keep in mind performance of his own ventilator." @default.
