- W2019922110 abstract "Abstract Most front-mounted implements are rigid in the lateral direction, which impairs the steering of the tractor. The hitch geometry of a front-mounted laterally movable linkage can be chosen such that both directional implements, which have a preferred direction of motion, and non-directional implements, which have no preferred direction of motion, will self-centre. However, the influence of different geometrical parameters on the lateral behaviour of front-mounted implements with a large force in the upper link is so far not well understood. This influence is investigated in this paper and a simple theory is proposed for the return, following a lateral deflection. The theory is evaluated using both experimental and simulated data. Both measurements and simulations show that the return path of a front-mounted directional implement is well predicted by the same equation as rear-mounted implements. Owing to their predictable behaviour, directional implements can be recommended for use with laterally movable front-mounted linkages. Non-directional implements rely entirely on linkage forces for their return. The linkage forces are unpredictable, if the vertical force acting on the implement is unpredictable. This implies that non-directional implements cannot be recommended for use with laterally movable front-mounted linkages. It is also shown that the transition from a stable linkage to an unstable one is gradual, starting with a small unstable zone which gradually widens." @default.
