- W2019967141 abstract "<h3>In Reply.—</h3> Although it would seem reasonable to expect that treatment of thiazide-induced hypokalemia with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing agents might prevent some instances of ventricular fibrillation from occurring in the presence of an acute myocardial infarction, my report was not designed to answer this question, and one can only speculate that it might be so. It would be a logical extension of the present study, therefore, to investigate this important problem further by comparing the incidence of myocardial infarction and ventricular fibrillation in patients on diuretics both with and without concurrent treatment with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing agents. I agree with Dr Loewy that prevention of ventricular fibrillation would be far more desirable than treatment at the time of the acute cardiac problem, the latter having been the specific subject matter of the present study. In lieu of such data, however, it would seem appropriate that patients receiving diuretics" @default.
